Product Review

Mixed feelings

by   janesoffers ,   Apr 5, 2008

Pros:  Great video and audio quality

Cons:  Beware of iPod's and iTunes' special way of tagging files.

The Bottom Line:  Good video & audio quality, poor user design

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

I love the video and audio quality watching the films and listening to the audio. But it takes a little more geek-ability than I have to effectively manage the downloading, storing, archiving and re-linking the audio/video files. If you are a geek, I am certain it is easy. But managing the files for an iPod in iTunes is nothing like managing files on a computer. I moved a lot of TV shows and movies to an external drive and thought it would be a straightforward process to bring them back into the iPod for subsequent viewing. This is the way all computer files can be managed. But not with the iPod. And the instructions and manual are not helpful at all. Even the blogs on the Internet that normally are a useful source of info on how to handle the iPod and iTunes find it hard to explain the complex manner in which iPod tags the file when it is first downloaded. I strongly urge buyers of the iPod to learn about the way in which an iPod and iTunes tags and stores files before moving anything out of the iPod directory. Though I have not figure out how, there is a special method that iPod uses and if you understand it, and move files accordingly, there are no problems. Good luck.
