A Remote Control For Your Fan? Way to Go Honeywell!
Date of Review: May 10, 2003
The Bottom Line: A wonderful remote controlled fan!
Big name for a big fan - we now own 2 Honeywell 16" Oscillating Stand Fans w/ Remote Control HS-350, and our in-laws even bought one after spending a week in our house with ours. We have an older 1950's brick house, with no hopes of air conditioning, except for window units (those we only have in the bedroom). To help air flow and keep us cool in the warmer months (which can get to the upper 90's here on the Virginia/North Carolina border), we rely on fans. After purchasing many fans that we weren't totally pleased with, we actually did a little research looking for a fan that fit our needs - the Honeywell 16" Oscillating Stand Fan w/ Remote Control HS-350 fit the bill ... perfectly. After 2 summers (going on out third) of use, we know we have a winner.
Basic Fan Plus More
The Honeywell 16" Oscillating Stand Fan w/ Remote Control HS-350 is your basic standing fan, resting on a pole with wide base. The fan oscillates (goes side to side) and also can be made to be stationary (just blow in one direction). 3 protected blades that spin, this product is also very very easy to take apart and clean - the clips pop right up and I can remove the whole top, spray off and replace ... good as new.
The remote part is the best, and what really sold us. It's also what made us buy more than one, and what made my in-law's go buy their own. The remote sets in the front part of the base and all the upraised buttons can be pressed from there (it sort of "clicks" in and stays in place). It can also be removed and then made portable, like a regular tv type remote. This means the fan can now be used 2 ways - as there are still flat buttons underneath on the base, with all of the same controls and features.
Features
There are many options for how you want this fan to run, which makes it even more worth the money for us. First you can tilt it up and down and decide at what level you'd like the air to come out at. This is a nice feature for us because our 3 year old hates the fan to point anywhere near him (go figure). There is an "On" button, along with 3 different speeds - Low, Medium, and High (just click the On button for each speed). You can always tell what speed you are on because there are red indicator lights on the base (right above where the remote was). Even the Low level flows quite well for us, and we rarely turn to High. There is a Breeze feature - just press the button and the fan gives out short bursts of air while it continues to run. We don't use this feature a lot - you either want air or you don't around here. There is also a time you can set - just click the "Timer" button once for 2, twice for 4, three times for 8. And finally there is the "Off" button which stops the whole fan from moving.
From Amazon.com:
"The Honeywell HS350 Remote Control Stand Fan provides excellent circulation of air throughout a room. Whether you're balmy from hot summer weather or need circulation when working with paints, delivers a gentle or brisk flow of air for your comfort and safety. One really cool feature is an Infra-Red wireless remote control to turn your fan on and off from anywhere in the room. There are also selectable timer modes so you can set your fan to stay on for 2, 4, or 8 hours and then shut itself off. When it comes to keeping your environment stable and comfortable, you can rely on Honeywell/Enviracaire products.

Loving It
We love the remote feature - we can control the fan from anywhere in the room. It's nice to not have to get up as you cool off and adjust the fan more to your liking. Also, it is nice to be able to turn it off quickly if you are trying to hear something or need to answer the phone, etc. Or just adjust the amount of air you need at any given time. This is especially nice when we use this in a bedroom - and are too tired and comfortable to get back up and turn off the fan! This fan is lightweight enough that I can pick it up and carry from room to room, even up and down the stairs. Really, I can't think of anything we haven't liked about this fan. It's been ideal.
Want One?
We bought ours at Sears, where I still see it's still available, at least on-line. Checking around at popular stores that frequently sell floor fans might be a good bet also. The Honeywell 16" Oscillating Stand Fan w/ Remote Control HS-350 wasn't hard for any of us to find, and certainly worth the $40 investment!
