Golfer + Travel = Ogio Straight Jacket
Date of Review: Jul 29, 2004
The Bottom Line: Every golfer who travels needs this bag. I would be lost if I did not have this bag to tote my clubs around in. A superior product all-around.
I travel all over the US and I used to worry about how they will be treated either by the airlines or stuffed inside a loaded trunk. The Ogio Straight Jacket completely calmed those fears. Ogio has blazed ahead of the pack when it comes to golf bags and this travel jacket is second to none. The typical back cover only attempts to keep the clubs from shifting or getting scuffed or broken. Clubs are not cheap these days no matter what skill level you are. And what about headroom for those drivers and woods? No problem. Why not have peace of mind? Allow me to point out what the Straight Jacket will provide you.
Most jackets just zip over the bag and sometimes that is easier said than done. The Straight Jacket has a very heavy duty zipper and two internal straps that hold the bag in place. Putting your bag into the Straight Jacket is so easy by lying it on the floor and placing it inside.
Now that it is inside and secure what of the material. I have never seen a more durable travel jacket. Two words: Military Grade. Ogio provides a highly durable bag that I am confident I will have for a long time. After much usage I have yet to see any hard wear & tear that would accompany any luggage that has seen as much airline action as this jacket.
The greatest feature I find is that this baby has a hard back and on the bottom has sealed ball-bearing rollers. This is a god-send to the golfing world. From hauling it to the car or zig-zagging at the airport you no longer have to haul it on your shoulder but pull it behind you like any other bag. However it does come with a heavily padded strap so you can carry it on your shoulder or you can carry it like a long duffel. However it will only lay down; it will not stand upright. What is also nice is that once you are to your destination the jacket will fold in half for storage.
The only things some may see as a minor inconvenience is that the bad does not stand upright nor is it a hard shell case. In regards to these issues I say the lesser gives way to the greater. Standing upright would have been nice a few times but it was hardly a problem or in the way. As far as people concerned that it is not a hard shell case need not worry. I have seen how my jacket has been treated and my clubs always arrive the way the departed.
